“In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain. For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.”Psalm 11:1-5 NIV (New International Version)
Have you ever tried to build something. When I was a boy, I helped my dad build a dog house. Back then I didn’t understand why he placed a piece of plywood on the bottom before he set up the rest of the house. Now I am not saying I am an expert in construction, but now I understand what the bottom plywood was for; it was the foundation for which the doghouse was able to stand on. Every house or building requires a strong foundation in order for it to last. The same could be applied to people as well.
No one can succeed in life without a strong foundation under their feet. Why is a good foundation so important? Hardships will happen in this world and there is nothing that can be done to stop them. So it would be a good idea to have something firm under your feet. Now there are two ways that people do in order to deal with these rough times.
The first way is to fight through the hard times. This is what I call a survival mentality, trying to get by however you can whenever you can. If that requires you be violent in order to have your needs met then so be it. The issue with this way of thinking is that it doesn’t always work and when it doesn’t, the failure would only produce more hardship and you would be too tired to fight anymore. This kind of foundation is one made out of person’s rugged determination, and as you can see, it is not very strong.
This leads to the second way to dealing with challenges. You are able to endure hardship when you seek after one who is bigger than you and make them your support or foundation. There is only one foundation that I can think of that is strong enough to take on any challenge.
The Lord God Almighty is the only foundation that is strong enough to keep you secure. This is because He Himself is bigger than any challenge you face. To have God as he rock under your feet, we must walk the path of righteousness which He has made for you. For those who struggle to live a life that is righteous, the Lord is their foundation. Without God, it is impossible to be righteous in the storms of life.
Now the Lord is not the source of the troubles you are in. Nevertheless He uses them to test the hearts of all people to see where there faith is based on. To those whose foundation is not God but in themselves, the Lord will oppose them and bring them down. As for those whose faith is in Him, He will bless and strengthen them in the midst of the storm. Which one will you be?
