Why Wait and Not Complain?

Be patient then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming.  See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.  You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.  Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged.  The Judge is standing at the door!

James 5:7-9 (New International Version)

Why should we wait and not complain in our waiting for the Lord’s return?  To complain about His coming won’t make the Lord come any faster.  Let us consider the life of the farmer.

The farmer must wait for his crops to grow before he could harvest them.  He knows that if he takes them out of the ground too soon, before the seasonal rains, then he will lose his valuable crop and all his work would have been for nothing.  The farmer may not like the waiting, but it’s out of the farmer’s hands and complaining about it is just wasted energy.

The same principle applies to waiting for the coming of our God.  He doesn’t come according to our time table, therefore there is only one thing that we can do: wait.  However there is an old saying that “Good things come to those who wait.”  I do believe that the coming of the Lord is truly a good thing worth waiting for. Are you willing to wait?
