Have you ever had those moments that you wished that you could go back in time and tell the younger you about the challenges that they will face as they grow up and how to avoid them? That is the premise for the song “Dear Younger Me” by Mercy Me. During those times that we face difficulties, it is easy feel isolated and confused. We do not understand why God would allow such things to happen.
However, later on, we look back in our lives, we understand the reasons why certain things happened us. It was not because God hated us. On the contrary, He allowed these hard times to happen so that we could be molded into the young men and women of faith that He has called us to be.
With that in mind, if you had the opportunity to talk to your younger self, what would you say to them? I believe the lyrics at the end of the song best reflect what our words would be. Instead of warning them of the dangers of the future, we should encourage them to persevere in their faith in God. To trust the Almighty even in the toughest of storms. We may not understand why such things head our way, but we can trust in the Lord that such things will worked together for our good. Let us hold fast to this truth, that all things are under the Lord’s control and He makes work together for good; and He does so because we are His redeemed ones.
