These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 (King James Version)
It is not easy to be a follower of Jesus Christ. That is because we live in a world that is full of darkness and is hostile to Christ. Now since we bear Christ name in us, this world is also hostile to us and will harm any way it can.
Jesus warned us of this in His words to His disciples in John 16:33. Yet, even if we face many challenges in our faith, we should not allow them to bring us down or cause us to turn away from Him. Instead of despairing, we must have in us a spirit of peace despite the hostility.
How on earth can we find peace in ourselves in the face of such sorrow? The peace that we seek does not come from the world, but it originates from the knowledge that Jesus has overcome this dark world. The moment He died on the cross was the moment that the power that the world had over mankind was broken.
Never again will the world manipulate us to do what it desires. Never again, we will it cause us anxiety and fear. That is because we, as Christ followers, are under the grace of Christ; that means we are under the favor of the King of Kings. There is nothing that this world could do to take us away from His loving mercy, its fangs have been forcibly removed by the Almighty.
With all this truth in mind, let us take heart when trials come our way. Let us stop fear and worry from reigning in our hearts. Instead, may we find peace in the face of all adversity. When trials come our way, let us look to Christ and find hope in Him. The war God had against the world is already over, for our Christ has already won the day. Being His children, let us share in His victory by standing tall for Him.
