In the rich man poor man parable, it is said that there is “A great Gulf” between the two. This is the gap between life and death, righteousness and unrighteousness, and the truth and the lie. It is the vast area of corruption created when Adam abdicated his responsibility as a son of God.
The reason Jesus appeared to be so different to the common man, or to the Pharisees, was because he was righteous, they were not. Jesus had “come down from heaven”, they were born of the earth. He seemed to have difficulty understanding the lack of faith in man, even though He “knew what was in man”. It says “He was amazed at their lack of faith” and chided them for it.
