Devotion: “Lord, if you want”

Jesus was in one of the towns where there was also a man covered with a skin disease. When he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged, “Lord, if you want, you can make me clean.” 13 Jesus reached out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do want to. Be clean.” Instantly, the skin disease left him. 

This scripture may look familiar to many of you; Luke 5:12-13 tells of the encounter between Jesus and the leper.

The way in which this man with leprosy asks Jesus to heal him catches the readers eye, because this man is dying – he would without a doubt die very soon if not healed, and he knows that, but before asking Jesus to heal him, he makes it a point to say to Jesus, “If You want.”  He could have easily told Jesus, “heal me!” He could have asked…
