Genesis 24: Isaac and Rebekah


Many of us concern ourselves with finding the “perfect” spouse. The act of marriage according to Christianity is the intimate unity between a man and a woman ordained by God. With God’s blessing and direction, through prayer, we are able to find a spouse with clarity in His timing. But, we should not marry outside the faith. As believers, both Abraham and Sarah together raised Isaac as a Godly man in a household blessed by God. As a righteous parent, Abraham showed concern for his son’s faithfulness and eternal welfare. He made it clear to his oldest servant that Isaac must marry a bride from his country, not a Canaanite. In fact, Isaac never left the Promised Land; he was the son of promise, after all.

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers.” – 2 Corinthians 6:14

In devotion, the servant sought clarity from God to direct him to the right wife for his master’s son… and God…
