I think guilt and regret can be some of the biggest insults to God. We talk about how important forgiveness in Christianity all the time. It is a pillar of our faith. CS Lewis said, “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” So when we preach about God, about Christ, when we preach about forgiveness we remind everyone that we have to forgive others. When one has regret or guilt or shame, it’s usually because one hasn’t forgiven oneself. How can we preach a gospel of forgiveness, and how can we say we forgive others, when we can’t even forgive ourselves?

Who do we dare think we are, to think that we are exempt from the essence of God? If God is the embodiment of love and forgiveness, how can we live as if we are far beyond His love…
