Two of the Bible Jumpers, Zach and Liz, discuss the existence of miracles in light of the healing that Jesus performed.

Jesus stood up on the boat and raised his hands to silence the crowd. “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop- a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.” He pointed to his ear, “He who has ears to hear let him hear.”
Jesus sat down and turned to the men that were with him. The men busied themselves with getting the sail raised and lifting up the anchor. A cool breeze blew toward the sea and the boat slowly drifted away from the shore. The murmuring of the crowd resumed and slowly the people scattered from the beach toward the town.
“Is that it?” asked John disappointedly.
“It looks like it,” said Mary.
“Let’s get off this roof before Joshua’s Uncle sees us,” said Daniel.
“What was that that Jesus was trying teach to the crowd?” asked Mary as they walked along the beach back to the time vehicle.
“It’s called a parable,” said Daniel.
“Oh I’ve heard of those,” said John, “Aren’t parables stories that compare something that we see every day to a particular subject? Kind of like a metaphor?”
“Since when do you know about metaphors?” asked Mary.
John smiled, “Since I started writing a book full of jokes.”
“You’re writing a joke book?” asked Mary skeptically, “Tell me one of the jokes you wrote.”
John fidgeted, “Well…I haven’t written it yet, but in my research for it, I learned that metaphors are used a lot in jokes.”
“Uh-huh,” said Mary.
“Okay, as soon as I write down my first joke, you will be the first to read it,” said John.
“I can’t wait,” said Mary, “So Daniel, is John right about what a parable is?”
“He’s correct,” said Daniel. He reached into his robe and there was a CLICK.
“So what subject was this parable about?” asked Simon.
“The kingdom of God,” said Daniel.
